The Brighton branch is based in Southwick, at the Sussex MS Centre, surrounded by parkland and just 10 minutes along the coast from the bustling centre of Brighton & Hove. Here we provide a spacious teaching environment, for small groups of students: with generous amenities, free parking, transport links, local shops and room to wander amongst the trees at lunchtime. We welcome students from a wide geographical area. We are currently running The Shiatsu College’s three-year, Level 4 Diploma Shiatsu course; a Government Recognised Qualification – Training to full professional MrSS Shiatsu Practitioner status. The first year is open as a ‘stand alone’ one-year course to gain ’The Shiatsu College Bodywork for Wellbeing certificate'. Some students use this single year for its self-awareness & self-development work to use within their own world of various therapies or other occupations.

Here’s a quote from one of our recent students:

“…. I really loved the last Brighton weekend: it feels like I've inadvertently stumbled into something very special by signing up for your course, so thank you!"

Each year we welcome the community to join in with our Saturday mornings to gain Shiatsu experience and knowledge; usable for their own or family & friends’ general wellbeing. These run with our academic weekends and are accessible for any abilities. We also invite previous students and therapists to join for a full Saturday; those wanting support, keeping up to date with their skills & techniques or connecting up with fellow Shiatsu ‘family’. Please visit the events area, for non-professional branch activities information.

There are plenty of opportunities to join in with our branch of Shiatsu; learning about and experiencing the amazing healing art of Shiatsu. Our Branch Leader is Claire Gilliver. All enquiries are welcome for all the different classes available.

Teachers

Brighton branch

Teacher Claire Gilliver

BA(hons) FwSS Claire heads the Brighton Branch. She is a member of the Shiatsu Society UK, and qualified as a Professional Shiatsu Practitioner in 2007. She has a thriving Shiatsu practice in Brighton; specialising in psychological and emotional health. Also practising at Southdown’s Housing Trust, Mental Health Recovery Centre, (previously the NHS) for over 14 years; dedicated to taking Shiatsu out into the community. Her passion for teaching arrives from her ability to make life in the classroom accessible and enjoyable for all. Her teaching style and humour, with background in Fine Art and Design, brings the theory side of the course to life and opens up students’ potential. Claire also teaches Qigong, and brings this meditative ancient art form as a teaching tool in the Shiatsu classroom and workshops.

Teacher Debbie Collins

FwSS Debbie has over 20 years experience of teaching Shiatsu and working as a Shiatsu practitioner.  Inspired by the power of integrated medicine her aim is making the benefits, practice and principles of Shiatsu accessible and understandable to all.  As well as teaching and practising in Brighton, UK she has over the past 5 years built a practice in The Hague, Netherlands and is teaching at CSMBK.  Debbie is also a Qigong teacher and Massage Therapist. She has extensive experience in treating psychological and substance misuse issues through Pathways to Health and chronic conditions through working at Sussex Multiple Sclerosis Centre.

Teacher Angie Hell

FwSS Angie has been teaching with the Shiatsu College since 2017. Her attention to detail and grasp of Shiatsu theory make her the go-to person for tricky questions! She used to practise Shiatsu with patients, carers and staff at the Martlets Hospice and has a busy practice in Shoreham. She is particularly interested in the impact stress, anxiety and trauma have on the body-mind and the support and relief Shiatsu can offer.
